Before we were a firm, we were the client.
For years we ran companies of our own, looking for an accounting partner who’d treat our numbers the way we did. We hired firm after firm, and every one fell short. So we stopped looking and built the finance team we always wished we could hire. Now it’s yours.
WHERE IT STARTED
Ten years in the owner’s seat.
It began about ten years ago with one company of our own. It did well — well enough that one became several. We acquired four more and started three others, until we were running a whole group of them, Decada Group. Landscaping, dental, manufacturing, retail. Different industries, but the same relentless questions: Is this price right? Can we afford this hire? Where did the cash actually go?
So we did what every owner does — we hired it out. Firm after firm. And every time, the story ended the same way: they tidied the books, filed the return, and went quiet until next year. Competent, but never hands-on. None of them cared about our companies the way we did, for the simple reason that the companies weren’t theirs.
SO WE BUILT IT OURSELVES
So we stopped looking and built it ourselves.
So we built it instead — an in-house finance team for our own companies. Clean books and a monthly close, cash watched week to week, budgets and forecasts, margin analysis, and the capital and diligence work behind every deal. We bought those four companies with it.
It was finance by operators, for operators. It dug in, asked the next question, and treated every dollar like it was ours — because it was. It changed how we ran everything, and that same ownership-level attention is still exactly how we work today.

A COMPANY OF ITS OWN
In 2025, we opened the doors.
For years this team served only our own companies, and quietly became some of the best work in the group. So one question kept surfacing: what if we opened it up, and let owners everywhere hire the partner we could never find? In 2025 we did exactly that, and brought on a CEO to run it. Pierson Watts spent more than a decade in corporate finance — high-growth tech and publicly traded companies — and he’s a founder himself, so he speaks both languages fluently.
Since then we’ve grown — dozens of industries, more owners, a deeper set of services — and given the firm a name meant to last: Tally & Stone. We know exactly how many owners are still standing where we once stood, hunting for a firm that actually cares. This is for them. Here’s the story behind the name, and who we work with now.
THE NAME
Two plain words for the whole job.
A tally is the count — the honest running number, kept where you can see it and added up right. A stone is what you build on once you trust it: something solid and permanent, that compounds year over year. An accurate count, and a foundation you can build on. That’s the whole idea — and the name.
